Cross-Harbour Bus Route 606
Cross-Harbour Bus Route 606 is a bus route in Hong Kong, jointly operated by Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) and Citybus.
History
- 22 September 1989: The route commenced service in accordance with the opening of Eastern Harbour Tunnel. First with the number 106E, soon after it was renumbered 404, and with the establishment of the common prefix "6" on all Eastern Harbour Tunnel bus routes, it was proposed to be renumbered 666. However, "666" was unpopular with the public, so it was never used. Finally, it was officially numbered 606, jointly operated between KMB and CMB. The route served between Choi Wan and Chai Wan (East).
- 1 April 1990: With the completion of Siu Sai Wan Estate and the development of Siu Sai Wan, the route was extended to Siu Sai Wan Estate Bus Terminus.
- 8 July 1996: Under the demand of the Eastern District, the route was diverted to serve Yiu Tung Estate, Hing Tung Estate, Quarry Bay, and eastern North Point.
- 1996: KMB increased the number of air-conditioned buses serving this route.
- 1 September 1998: CMB franchise is terminated. The joint service is now between KMB and Citybus.
- 22 July 2001: With the opening of Island Resort Bus Terminus, the terminus was relocated there.
- 31 May 2004: Auxiliary route 606P is introduced.
